See, I am not totally heartless (haha pun intended) about Valentine's Day. I celebrate it (in little dosages) for the kids. As you can see, Meli is wearing a heart sweatshirt, I made heart-shaped pancakes, the kids each got a card with candy and a bunny stuffed animal, we made pink cupcakes, and went on a family Valentine's Day hike. Will and I just do not do anything for each other. I have never liked the idea of going out to dinner for Valentine's (I always feel cheesy) and I do not need a gift. Do not get me wrong, I love the idea of celebrating love - but I would just rather do it randomly and everyday. I tried to get myself to like it last year and looked up the origin (I love history) and it just seemed a bit sketchy. Nothing seemed factual...I did not try to hard, so maybe I will give google another shot. I did like a post a friend of mine put on facebook. She posted a list of martyrs for civil rights to celebrate black history month and Valentine's (celebration of martyrs) - which I liked. So, take the hearts, pink and red combination out of it and I would be a lot happier about such a commercialized holiday. I have had a lot of people ask me this year what Will and I were doing for the holiday...judging from the reactions I got...I am an oddity being a woman that does not like the heart day. Me, not like majority of women...who knew?!?
Anyways, back to our hike. It was a nice day, a bit cold - the sun chose to appear after we were done. So the rest of the day was absolutely beautiful.
Meli was a little cold.
My baby girl. She feels me with so much love!
Meli was playing dress-up when she put on the Vader mask and says, "I am a princess" in his voice. It was hilarious!
In the spirit of celebrating love, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! I know that I really enjoyed being around my loves!
